Research Areas:

Over the years, Dr. Jin’s group has investigated embryonic stem cells, especially human embryonic stem cells. They focuse on elucidating the regulatory mechanism governing self-renewal and pluripotency of embryonic stem cells, by addressing the question of how extracellular signals, intracellular transcriptional factors and epigenetic regulators coordinate to determine the cell fate of pluripotent stem cells. The goal is to understand the developmental principle and optimize the in vitro culture system of pluripotent stem cells. They are also interested in how human embryonic stem cells are directed to neural cell fate, particularly how to regionalize the neural progenitor cells in the central nervous system. All the effort would lay the foundation for the generation of clinical applicable functional cells.
