Novonesis Visits Shanghai Institute of Nutrition and Health

A delegation led by Mr. Henrik Jørck Nielsen, Executive Vice President of Human Health Biosolutions & Strategy at Novonesis, visited the Shanghai Institute of Nutrition and Health (SINH) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on March 19, 2026.

Prof. HU Guohong, Deputy Director of SINH, extended a warm welcome to the visitors. Associate Researcher WEI Yanhuan introduced SINH's mission, structure, research directions, and featured units including the Bio-Med Big Data Center, Shanghai Information Center for Life Sciences, and the National Rodent and Leporid Laboratory Animal Resource Center. She also highlighted the Engineering Laboratory as a platform for translational research and industrial collaboration, noting the institute’s partnerships with leading companies in the life and health industry.

Mr. Nielsen outlined Novonesis's operations across food, beverage, human health, and planetary health, highlighting the company’s biotechnology R&D capabilities and its ongoing work in areas such as gut health, metabolism, and immune modulation.

During the presentation and exchange session, researchers from SINH shared their recent research advances covering topics ranging from probiotics and tumor biology to nutrition and metabolic health. The two sides explored potential areas of collaboration, such as the development of women’s and infant nutrition products, as well as synthetic biology foods.

Focusing on human nutrition and health, SINH is dedicated to making new discoveries and developing new products and technologies, and maintains long-term scientific research partnerships with multinational companies like Unilever, Haleon, and AstraZeneca.
